Biology
Laboratory
Biology is an everyday experience. Our well–designed
and well-equipped laboratory provides the best means
to give students an opportunity for active learning
and to know more about life.
We have audio-visual facilities to allow views from
microscope or visual facilities demonstration. The laboratory
has exotic specimens representing all the major plant
groups, seeds, fruits. The entomology collection consists
of a wide variety of insects, pests, insects and rare
samples. Most invertebrate groups are well represented
mostly by dry material and formalin preserved specimens.
There is a wide variety of vertebrate material that
includes articulated and disarticulated bones and skeletons.
Every class has one practical period every week in the
Biology Laboratory. They are taken in small groups of
15-20 students. They have practical examinations in
which they identify, classify and carry experiments
and are given marks based on their practical skills.
The Biology students learn to appreciate unicellular
life under the microscope and the same cells in the
form of tissues, organs, organ-systems and organisms
amazes them no end. There are specimens showing various
life stages of different groups like birds, amphibians,
reptiles and mammals. The students feel that every group
has a different story to tell. They are also shown the
various internal organs of various animals through dissections.
The various life processes are taught through various
apparatuses. The various charts, models, specimens depicting
life immediately arouse an interest in the students.
The various queries arising in their minds are provided
with solutions.
The preserved organs of humans (we even have a preserved
gall bladder of our Principal), the skeletal system,
the tissues and cells each tell us the story of a complex
living being. The students learn about the evolution
starting from simpler form to the more complex form
and finally to Homo sapiens. The diversity among the
living beings is simply amazing. One feels one has not
had enough knowledge about them even after spending
months in the laboratory that provides our students
the relevant scientific literature of life.
