Chemistry
Laboratory
Profile
The laboratory is laid out on the top most floor of
the school building. A spacious room with adequate lighting
and ventilation is provided for this purpose.
Layout
Work tables for students are laid out in rooms where
each student is provided with an independent work place.
Tabletops and sinks are of granamite to make them acid
and stain proof. Each sink has a bent nozzle water tap
so as to have a controlled water supply. Each work place
has a gas burner with centralized gas supply. Burners
are supplied with regulators to monitor the flame as
per requirement. Chemicals, salts and required acids
are also neatly stacked on the worktable. There is a
separate enclosure for the storage of chemicals and
apparatus. A separate worktable and blackboard is earmarked
to facilitate the teacher in-charge to explain and demonstrate
the experiment they are required to perform.
Duties of Laboratory
Assistants
A full time lab assistant is provided. She keeps all
the necessary records of chemicals, apparatus and equipments
of the laboratory. She supplies the students with necessary
apparatus for conducting experiments, as and when required.
Students
Each class is divided in three groups so that a handful
of students can work in the laboratory in a congenial
atmosphere. The teacher in-charge is present when the
students carry out the experiments. This enables them
to clarify any doubt.
Safety from
hazards
Adequate care has been taken to prevent any incidental
hazards. Fire extinguishers are hung outside the lab.
Large windows and exhaust fans expel fumes, smoke etc.
out of the room. The top most floor has been selected
so that the expelled air travels upwards. It is mandatory
for the students and staff to wear protective coats
when they are inside the work area. A full time nurse
is available to provide first aid, if necessary. Necessary
care has been taken to provide quality service and education
to students.
