History
of the School
• In the year 1982, Mr. Harold Carver, an excellent
teacher in St. John’s School, found certain things wanting
in the education system and visualized an institution
that remove those flaws.
• St. Stephen’s School was started on April 12th 1982
by a committee of eminent educationists.
• The School was started at a very small scale in the
form of a Primary School from nursery to class V. Besides
the managing committee, the School had a dedicated staff
of 12 members.
• The School was initially located in 3 bungalows in
Sector 8. Later arrangements were made in Sector 9 and
11 till land was allotted in Sector 45 by the Chandigarh
Administration. Today the School is housed in its own
vast 4-storey building with a lovely Japanese Garden
in front and a playground at the back of the building.
• Our School has been awarded “The Best Garden in an
Institution” by the Chandigarh Administration for the
last 3 years.
• The school is considered as the best in the city as
it covers not only academics but believes in the child’s
all round development. Anyone associated with the School
not only feels happy but also is proud of it.
• The motto chosen for School as “Semper Sursum” which
means ‘Always Aim Higher’. It is a challenge in itself
as it makes the children aspire for higher standards
in all they do.
