Joshi Memorial Cricket Tournament
Organised by St.
Edward’s School, Shimla
(June 4, 2009 to June
8, 2009)
Eight teams
participated in the Tournament divided into 2 pools.
St. Stephen’s won all three matches in their pool and
qualified for the semi – finals and won the semi-final
match with Henault School, Shimla by 57 runs and
entered the finals. St. Stephen’s played the final
with the host team, St. Edward’s School, Shimla. St.
Stephen’s won the toss and selected to bat first and
scored 210 for 4 in allotted 20 overs. Jagpreet Singh
was the highest scorer of St. Stephen’s School and
scored 85 runs in just 43 deliveries. He hit 5 sixes
and 8 boundaries and Abhilash Sharma scored 30 runs in
21 deliveries, hit 2 sixes and 2 boundaries, Udit Hari
Mehta scored 29 runs, Lovish Bansal scored 23 runs in
just 9 balls. Then St. Edward’s school scored 162 all
out in 18.4 overs. Aman Sharma of St. Edward’s School
was the main scorer with 70 runs with 7 sixes. The Man
of the match and the best batsman award was won by
Jagpreet Singh of St. Stephen’s School Sector 45-B,
Chandigarh. The best bowler of the tournament award
went to Abhilash Sharma of St. Stephen’s School,
Chandigarh who took 14 wickets in 5 matches. The best
wicket keeper award was won by Lovish Bansal of St.
Stephen’s School, Chandigarh who stumped 17 and held 9
catches in 5 matches. Aman Sharma of St. Edward’s
School, won the player of the Tournament Award. The
awards were presented by Rt. Rev. Ignatius Loyola
Mascarenhas (Bishop – Shimla-Chandigarh Diocese) and
the family of Late Captain Amit Joshi who died on
Siachen Glacier.
St. Stephen’s won this
tournament for the 4th time in six years of
participation.
